I have seen this movie before! In the early 1980s, President Reagan attempted to cut back dozens of programs that directly affected the health and wellbeing of families and children. He tried to cut back Head Start and Food Stamps. He even tried to cut back the popular Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). We all know that the American media is imploding. Thousands of reporters and journalists are out of work due to downsizing and layoffs. This is especially true in Washington, D.C., where the vaunted Hudson's Directory of journalists working in the nation's capitol has shrunk from over 400 pages in 2007 to a little over 200 pages in 2009. The Communications Consortium Media Center regularly reviews media coverage on the various policy issues we support. The purpose of the tracking is to inform coalitions working on particular issues about how the media sees an issue, how it is currently covering the subject(s), who's quoted, and how the issue is being framed.

Census Advertising 2.0

When the 1990 decennial census rolled around, the Advertising Council of America, representing most of the big New York ad agencies and most of the TV and radio networks, produced so-called Public Service Advertising (PSAs) for hundreds of stations across the country urging the American public to participate in that year’s census.
